Christmas Marketing for Owner Managed Businesses

It’s that time of year again. Your turkey is ordered, the Christmas adverts are hitting the telly, and the children’s lists are in... But have you started thinking about how to embrace Christmas marketing for your business?  

The festive period is a fantastic time to connect with your customers and your wider business network. It doesn’t have to be expensive, just a way to say “Hi, we’re here and thank you for all your support this year”. We’ve listed some ideas below to help you achieve this: 

Deck out your social media

With just a little planning, an advent calendar social media campaign can give you a ton of content for your channels and keep your network wanting more.  

A popular approach is to create branded countdown images using the free version of Canva. Alternatively, you could make the best of the algorithm and share a short video each day with helpful tips for your customers.  

Tip: Drip feed your audience the best content each week and don’t forget to save the best until last. Perhaps end your campaign the week before Christmas, as your customers may be unlikely to check LinkedIn on the 25th of December!  

Bring festive cheer to your customer’s inboxes

If your Christmas email is simply a ‘Merry Christmas’ added to the end of your December newsletter, consider how you could approach this year a little differently. 

Get creative! Use an engaging subject line to encourage your network to hit “open”, it could be something that will make them smile or some useful information.  

From there, design a branded one-of-a-kind email using some of the tools available to you online. The email should be punchy in both style and substance with a clear call to action at the end.  

Send a Christmas card

Let your customers know you appreciate them by sending a Christmas card. This works as a simple reminder to let them know you’re there. Adding a QR code on the back means they can easily contact you.

Send a present

What’s arguably more memorable than a Christmas card? A gift. 

Thoughtful and on-brand is key. For example, you wouldn’t give a box of chocolates if you own a healthy food company. Consider something that your clients will continue to use such as a portable charger or a ring light.  

This is likely to be the most expensive option but also the most memorable if done correctly. 

Pick up the phone

Are you someone who loves to have a chat? A simple phone call to check in with your customers can be all you need to do to let them know you’re there.  

A call serves as an opportunity to wish them a heartfelt ‘Merry Christmas’. It also gives you the chance to ask their honest opinion about your service over the past year and what they would like to see from you in 2025.  

Tip: Don’t forget to write down who you’ve spoken to and what was discussed, it will come in handy when you start afresh in January. 

Please be conscious that not everyone celebrates Christmas.  

Make sure you know your audience before you send Christmas wishes and tailor your wording accordingly if they don’t celebrate the holiday. Instead, you could say, “Wishing you a relaxing break and a Happy New Year.”
