Recently, I had the privilege of speaking at the EMPOWHER event at the Old Bond Store, which celebrated the power of being true to oneself, especially within the context of women in business.

In today’s business world, showing your true self has never been more important for those striving to make a mark. But sometimes that level of openness creates its own set of challenges as we often doubt ourselves and our abilities, which leads us to say no to things we are perfectly capable of doing.
The day delved into the art of personal branding for independent women, tackling the barriers that too often hold brilliant minds back: imposter syndrome and the associated fear of showing up as oneself.
We explored how to embrace and showcase our genuine selves online, transforming LinkedIn profiles and websites from bland, generic digital assets into vibrant extensions of our personality and style. The event was an open format and allowed us to discover the freedom to ” be more you” in a space where we often feel pressure to conform.
The discussions on marketing and branding were particularly enlightening. Attendees learned the importance of aligning their personal and business brands with their core values and unique qualities. The emphasis was on being genuine in your messaging to attract a tribe of advocates and customers who truly believe in your mission.
We explored the nuances of public speaking with the fabulous Sarina Mann of Breakthrough Public Speaking, with practical tips on how to engage an audience authentically.
Additionally, the session on personal style from Victoria Hamilton was a fun and insightful look into how our sartorial choices can reflect and enhance our personal brand.
The event wasn’t just limited to business topics, as you can imagine, we had open candid conversations about everyday life experiences, from motherhood to health. Subjects like HRT, right through to the knickers we wear were discussed! One of the most heartwarming parts of the morning was whenone of the audience got a call from a friend shopping in West Quay, who was experiencing a moment of doubt. She received impromptu coaching on the spot. An act of support that epitomised the spirit of the event.
A huge thank you goes out to my co-speakers, Victoria Hamilton, and Sarina Mann, for their valuable insights and contributions. Sara Merriman did a fantastic job as the MC, keeping the energy high and the schedule on track. We also extend our gratitude to Nerelle Plenty and the Old Bond Store team for their seamless organisation and hospitality.
Lastly, a shoutout to Andy and Rob from Pulse8 for making the filming process smooth and comfortable for everyone involved.
The EMPOWHER event was a powerful reminder of how embracing authenticity can transform not only our businesses but our personal lives too. By being true to ourselves, we attract likeminded individuals who support and uplift us.
Thank you to everyone who made the morning so enjoyable. It’s been lovely to continue the conversations beyond the event as we continue to support one other.
